"KINGSDOWN, a parish in the hundred of Milton, lathe of Scray, county Kent, 4 miles S.E. of Sittingbourne, its post town, and 7 S.W. of Faversham. The parish is small, and the land partly in hops. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £194 10s. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Canterbury, value £200. The church, dedicated to St. Catherine, is a small ancient structure with several old monuments. The register dates from 1570. Lord Kingsdown is lord of the manor and chief landowner."

"MAPLESCOMBE, a hamlet in the parish of Kingsdown, hundred of Axton, lathe of Sutton-at-Hone, county Kent, 6 miles S. of Dartford, its post town, and 6 N.E. of Sevenoaks. It was formerly a parish. The living is a curacy annexed to the rectory of Kingsdown, in the diocese of Rochester. The church is in ruins.
