"WESTBERE, a parish in the hundred of Bleangate, lathe of St. Augustine, county Kent, 3 miles N.E. of Canterbury, and 1 mile from the Sturry station on the Ramsgate branch of the London and South-Eastern railway. It is situated in the vale of the river Stour, and includes a considerable tract of marsh. The manor anciently belonged to St. Augustine's monastery at Canterbury. The village is situated on the old road from Canterbury to Margate. Westbere gives name to a deanery in the archdeaconry and diocese of Canterbury. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Canterbury, value £225, in the patronage of the lord chancellor, and is held together with that of Aldington. The church is dedicated to All Saints."
