The church has a graveyard. A transcript of the Monumental Incriptions (deaths 1834-1892) is held at Lancashire Record Office. They were also transcribed in 1983 and a copy of that transcript is available at Colne library.

It was founded in 1140 and formerly dedicated to St Mary.
