It was founded in 1867.
The year 1868 was one of remarkable activity and development amongst the dissenters, the Congregationalists, whose preaching services in the town were first conducted in the old Grammar School, Beck Side, erected their building consisting of chapel and schoolroom-in a central position. on Beech Hill.The following table is submitted for reference.
