It was founded in 1956 and closed in November 2009. Built as a Christian Meeting House (Church of Christ) in 1907 at a cost of £350, it became a Roman Catholic church in 1956. Askam Roman Catholics had originally begun holding services in the Board School in 1896, being served by priests from Dalton [Victoria County History of Lancashire volume viii].
