It was founded before 1240.
- In the 12th century, monks from Cockersand Abbey built a chapel and a hospice here where the sick could be cared for.
- In 1710 the church needed to be enlarged and renovated.
- It was rebuilt in 1806.
- In 1890, the chancel, vestry, sanctuary and organ were added, and the interior of the church was renewed.
