Description & Travel

East Goscote is a village and a parish in northern Leicestershire that did not exist until 1962. This is the first new village in Leicestershire since Domesday. The area of the village is the site of a former army supply depot built in 1940 where munitions were made and stored. At the time it was known as the Queniborough depot as that was the closest village to it. It was decommissioned in 1959 and later developed by Jelsons an a "new village".

There were two enormous shell storage bunkers that were not demolished, but were earthed over and landscaped. If you are planning a visit:

  • By automobile, there is a turnoff from the A46 just north of Leicester city onto the A607 that takes you to East Gostcote.

  • The village is served by Arriva Bus company on their route 5.5A.

  • Adjacent to the village is Beedles Lake Golf Club.
