Parish Register Extracts

These have been found by the Norfolk transcribers for FreeREG, at the end of the Hethersett St Remigius register of baptisms and burials 1782-1812.

Inoculations in 1795

In the winter of the year 1795, 195 persons, varying in age from 2 years to 52, were inoculated & not one died.

Part of Mr Wm. Hughes's Will (died May 1803)

A copy of a clause in the will of the late Mr Wm. Hughes.

I give & bequeath to the Minister Churwardens [sic] & Overseers of the Parish of Hetherset for the time being & for ever three hundred pounds 3 per cent Consols Bank annuities to be paid by them to the Schoolmaster of that Parish for ever by two even & equal half yearly payments as interest money arising from the last mentioned sum for & towards the education of six poor children belonging to that Parish only to be chosen by the Minister Churchwardens & Overseers & by the Schoolmaster of that Parish alternately for ever And it is my will & desire that this legacy should be paid & discharged within six calendar months after my wife's decease.
Mr Hughes died May 23rd 1803.

Keeping of Registers

Registers were enjoined by Cromwel 1538.
By Edwd 6th 1547 & by Elizth 1559. from which time they have been kept with tolerable regularity, & since the abolition of Inquisitiones post mortem by Chars 2nd, are the best evidences of family descents.

Duty on Births, Deaths and Marriages

Febry 16th 1785 Recd for the duty on Births Deaths & Marriages for this Parish from the first of Octr 1783 to 1st Octr 1784 the sum of nine shillings
