Land Tax: 1814-33
This tax was based on the value of property etc. and paid by the owner or (sometimes) occupier according to their agreement. It started in 1692 and valuations are based on those done at this date.

These Norfolk Record Office documents [with the references C/SCD 2/28/21 1814 to C/SCD 2/28/39 1832 and also on microform] are part of the Norfolk Quarter Sessions Land Tax Assessments which are arranged by divisions this one being in Shropham Hundred.

The original document had the following headings spelt out in full. They have been contracted to allow for a clearer display.

- YEAR PAY = "TOTAL of YEARLY PAYMENTS"

For the Parish of Illington
An Assessment for one Year, from the 5th April, 1814, to the 5th April, 1815, made in pursuance of an Act passed in the 38th Year of the Reign of his Majesty George the Third, for granting an Aid to His Majesty, by a LAND TAX to be raised in Great Britain, for the Service of the Year 1798, and made perpetual by another Act passed in the 38th Year of the Reign of his said Majesty and also in pursuance of another Act passed in the 39th Year of the Reign of his said Majesty's Reign, for continuing and granting to his Majesty a Duty on Pensions, Offices, and Personal Estate, &c. for the Service of the Year 1815.

Note that there was nothing to pay as the land had been "exonerated" before the tax for 1804 was due. Assessors (often the same people year after year) sometimes filled in more columns than were actually necessary.
1815 - No change from 1814.
1816 - [5th/April/1816 to 5th/April/1817].
"Susan Gates" changed to "Susanna Gates".
1817/18/19/20/21/22/23/24/25/26 Land Tax - No changes from 1816.
1827 - [5th/April/1827 to 5th/April/1828].
