"MORSTON, on an acclivity overlooking the salt-marshes, is about a mile from the sea beach, 6 miles E. of Wells, and 7 miles N.W. by W. of Holt. Its parish has 173 inhabitants, and 1578 acres of land, exclusive of a tract of low marshes, which is overflowed at spring tides, and is intersected by the Blakeney harbour. Lord Charles Townshend owns a great part of the soil, and is lord of the manor, and patron of the Church (All Saints,) which is a rectory, valued in the King's Book at £18, and consolidated with Stiffkey. . . . A lieutenant and seven men are stationed here as a coastguard." [William White, History, Gazetteer, and Directory of Norfolk (1845) - Transcription copyright © Pat Newby]
