Notes
- The enumerator John Anness wrote cumulative totals for each trade when he should have written the figure in [] following them.
- Using figures obtained from the Bishops Transcripts for the Archdeaconry of Norfolk for the year 1752-53 we see that over the period until 1821 :-
- The number of houses has increased from 47 to 82
- The number of people has increased from 262 (of whom 160 were over sixteen years) to 601
Names and Trade Directories
Whites 1845 Trade directory (14 years later) gives the following names which may refer to the initials above.
- "John Anness" was described as a gentleman.
- "John Linstead" was a joiner who was born in Roydon and still there in 1851 aged 50, occupation Carpenter. There is another "John Linstead" next door in 1851 aged 80, occupation Carpenter
Names and Census
- "M M" the Carpenter is possibly "Michael Mattholi" a Carpenter Master in the 1851 census aged 54. There is another person of the same name aged 80 who was the Parish Clerk and of Italian origin.
- "R W" the Tailor is possibly "Robert Waters" a Tailor in the 1851 census aged 65 or in 8 baptism entries between June 1824 and Sep 1841.
- "C W" the Pedlar is possibly "Christopher Woods" a Pauper Pedlar in the 1851 census aged 80
- "W R" the Weaver is possibly the "William ROUGHTON" in a baptism entry for Oct 1826
- "S W" the Whitster is possibly the "Samuel WOODROW" in a baptism entry for Jan 1822 and Feb 1824
- "S H" the Shoemaker is possibly the "Samuel HARPER" in a baptism entry for Jul 1833
- "W B" the Huckster etc. is possibly the "William BOND" a "Higgler" in a baptism entry for Feb 1835
- "J A" the Huckster etc. is possibly the "John Aldrich" a "Higgler" in a baptism entry for Jan 1827
