SANTON parish, on the north side of the Little Ouse river, 4 miles N.W. of Thetford and E. of Brandon, is in Thetford union and county court district, Norwich bankruptcy district, Grimshoe hundred and petty sessional division, Methwold polling district of West Norfolk, South Cranwich rural deanery, and Norfolk archdeaconry. It had 35 inhabitants in 1881, living on 1508 acres of land. All the parish is the property of E.P. Mackenzie, Esq., and has a rateable value of £1449.

The CHURCH (St. Helen) is a very small edifice, built out of the ruins of the old one by Thomas Bancroft in 1628, and entirely restored in 1858, the present rector adding a chancel with north porch and octagonal tower. The discharged rectory, valued in the King's Book at £1 15s. 10d., and now at £80, is in the patronage of W. Dalziel Mackenzie, Esq., and incumbency of the Rev. Wm. Weller-Poley, M.A., J.P., of Brandon.
