SAXLINGHAM, on an eminence, 3 miles W. of Holt, is a parish in Walsingham union, Holt county court district, Holt petty sessional division and hundred, Holt polling district of North Norfolk, Norwich archdeaconry, and Holt rural deanery. It has a rateable value of £1779 14s., and a gross rental of £1960 4s. 11d. It had 140 inhabitants in 1881, and comprises 1498 acres of land, and has a rateable value of £1780. Mrs. Jodrell is lady of the manor and owner of the soil.

The CHURCH (St. Margaret) comprises nave, north and south transepts, south porch, and square tower with one bell. Of the fine monument in memory of the wife of Sir Christopher Heydon, nothing now remains but a small effigy of the lady in the arch of the north transept.

The executors of the Rev. Sir Edward Repps Jodrell, Bart., are patrons of the rectory, which was valued in the King's Book at £12 17s. 3½d., and is in the incumbency of the Rev. Thos. J.G. Marsham, M.A., who has 26 acres of glebe, a good residence, and a yearly rent-charge of £426, awarded in 1845, in lieu of tithes.

This parish was united with Field Dalling as a School Board district in 1876, and the children attend the school at Field Dalling.

The poor have 16s. a year, left by Christopher Ringer in 1679, and the interest of £100 in consols, left by the late Sir Richard Paul Jodrell, amounting to £3 per year.
