Census: 1829

Sedgeford is one of the few places in the county for which a census before 1841 containing names survives.

This Norfolk Record Office document [with the reference MC741, 793X2] is a small brown covered notebook. It contains family units including children and their current location. Relationships are given, some physical attributes and comments on their characters. Although not everyone in the village is listed the document covers a large percentage of the population.

At the end are listed children who attend an Evening School and various amounts of money that are owed?

The Census Document

The census contains the following information. The headings are my invention to show the layout of the information given. The "Total" is an attempt to count the people.

On the outside is "November 1829" and "C. Neville" (Rolfe).

[Inside the cover]
List of the Poor of Sedgeford taken in Sepr 1829
[List actually seems to detail most of the village apart from the clergy and farmers who are frequently refered to as employers].
