TOFTREES, near Rainham Park, 2½ miles S.W. of Fakenham, is a parish in Walsingham union, Fakenham county court district, Norwich bankruptcy district, Gallow hundred and petty sessional division, Fakenham polling district of West Norfolk, Toftrees rural deanery, and Norwich archdeaconry. It had 64 inhabitants in 1881, living on 1184 acres, and has a rateable value of £1699. The Marquis Townshend is the owner of the soil.

The parish is called Tofsas, or Toftes, in Domesday Book. The Hall, an ancient mansion, is the residence of Mr. Charles Case, whose family has lived here for nearly 200 years; the elaborately carved fireplace which the Hall formerly contained, has been removed to Ball's Park, Herts.

The CHURCH (All Saints) comprises nave, chancel, south porch, and low tower with one bell, and was partially restored and refitted with new open benches, pulpit, &c., in 1863. It is mostly in the Early English style, and has a very narrow priest's doorway in the chancel. The font is a singular specimen of Norman workmanship, of square form, resting on five columns with cushion capitals, and having intricate Norman knots and interlacing concentric circles on its sides, and lions' heads at its upper corners.

The Rev. William Barlow, M.A., is the vicar, and has a good residence, built in 1851. The Marquis Townshend, who is impropriator of the great tithes and patron of the vicarage, which was valued in the King's Book at £7 18s. 6d. and is now worth £160 per annum, having been augmented in 1778, 1786, and 1788 with £600 of Queen Anne's Bounty, with which 25 acres of land were purchased, besides which, there are 8 acres of glebe.

The United District Board School is at Shereford (which see).
