Land Tax: 1809-10

This tax was based on the value of property etc. and paid by the owner or (sometimes) occupier according to their agreement. It started in 1692 and valuations are based on those done at this date.

For the Parish of Tuttington

An Assessment for one Year, from the 25th March, 1809, to the 25th March, 1810, made in pursuance of an Act passed in the 38th Year of the Reign of his Majesty George the Third, for granting an Aid to His Majesty, by a LAND TAX to be raised in Great Britain, for the Service of the Year 1798, and made perpetual by another Act passed in the 38th Year of the Reign of his said Majesty and also in pursuance of another Act, for continuing and granting to his Majesty a Duty on Pensions, Offices, and Personal Estates.

Notes

  • In other rate documents the following alternative spellings have been seen which appear to refer to the same people/places:-
    Blakenbury/Brackenbury, Burrows/Burroughs, Hawes/Haws, Pattisson/Patterson, Powel/Powell, Scurll/Scirl, Sepoy/Seapy, Spanting/Spanton
  • The land owned by :- Widow Burrows, Edmund Burr and Robert Cook was no longer chargeable as someone had paid 15*Yearly rate.
  • The quality of parts of the fiche is poor.
  • A "*Rent" is the calculated rent based on the amount of Yearly figure. This was not on the original.
