Apprentice Indentures: 1833

Tuttington Overseers apprenticed some of the poor children of the Parish. If the parents/guardians could not afford the cost then often the Parish covered the cost.

This is from the Norfolk Record Office document [with the reference PD 401/39 and microform MF943/5] containing the Apprentice Indentures (1833) and this transcription has been condensed from the 2 original forms. This indenture is the only one available for this parish.

Date - 2/April/1833
 
Before 2 Justices of the Peace namely - William Blake Esq and the Rev^d Samuel Pitman, Clerk
 
Person to be apprenticed was :- John IVES a poor male child aged 14 years whose father was Robert IVES - who was not able to maintain the child.
 
Child to be bound to :- John Bailey of Blofield - Cordwainer to dwell and serve for Six Years from 2/April instant. Justices enquired and think it proper and therefore allowed. There was a limit of 40 miles from the originating parish to that which apprentice was sent at this time according to the form.

2/April/1833 William Elden & Barnard Bowles, Churchwardens and Benjamin Brettingham Bowles and John Ringer, Overseers were ordered by William Blake Esq and the Rev^d Samuel Pitman, Clerk to provide £10 for this apprenticeship.
