WOLVERTON, or Wolfreton, is a small scattered village, lying chiefly among the sandy hills above the marshes, bordering on Lynn Deeps, 7 miles N. by E. of Lynn. Its parish has 165 inhabitants, and 2,569 acres of land, exclusive of about 1,000 A. of the open sandy heath, extending hence to Dersingham and West Newton. On the west side of the parish are about 200A. of salt-marsh, bordering on the Wash, where a sea-wall was built many years ago, at the cost of £1,800.

The Hon. Chas. Spencer Cowper, of Sandringham, is owner of the soil, lord of the manor, and patron of the CHURCH, (St. Peter,) which was built in 1487, after the old one had been burnt down. It has recently been new roofed, re-pewed, and thoroughly repaired. The rectory, valued in the King's Book at £12, and in 1835 at £218, is enjoyed by the Rev. Dr. Bacon, of Fring. The glebe is 23A.

The poor have the interest of £25.
