"BIRCHAM-TOFTS lies a mile S.E. of the above [ie Bircham Newton], and is a small village and parish, with 142 inhabitants, and 1,301 acres. The Marquis Cholmondeley is owner, lord of the manor, and patron of the CHURCH, which is dedicated to St. Andrew, and is a discharged rectory, united with that of Bircham-Newton, and having 12 acres of glebe, but no parsonage-house."
