It was founded after 1819 but before 1836 the building having previously been used by the Independents until 1819. It closed in 1892 when the congregation moved to their new building in Oak Street. In 2020 the building was the "Conservative Club".
Note that the Religious Census of 1851 says Wesleyan Reform has a Chapel erected or used prior to 1800. Confusingly the building had been used by the Independents from 1779-1819.
The Wesleyan Methodist church was formed in the 18th century from religious societies founded by John Wesley and his preachers. It suffered many secessions, but was the largest Nonconformist denomination in the 19th century. In 1932 the Wesleyan Methodists joined with the Primitive Methodists and the United Methodists to form the Methodist Church of Great Britain.
