It was founded before 1300. It was originally St Michael's until 1652 when it changed to St Margaret's. Sometime alledgedly in the 19th Century it was St Clements but had reverted to St Margaret by 1906. White's Directories of 1845, 1864 and 1883 has St Michael as does the Kelly directory of 1908! Ordnance Survey map of 1881 has St. Clement and of 1905 has St. Margaret.
