"BLAKESLEY, a parish in the hundred of Green's Norton, in the county of Northampton, 4 miles to the W. of Towcester, its post town. It includes the hamlets of Foxley and Woodend. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough, of the value of £176, in the patronage of J. W. Wright, Esq. The church, which contains a monumental brass of the year 1416, is dedicated to St. Mary. The charitable endowments of this parish are of considerable value, producing above £250 per annum. The principal foundations are the school established in 1669 by William Foxley, which has an income from endowment of £100 a year; and the free school endowed by Lady Leveson, with an income of the same amount. Blakesley has also a share in several other charities. It is said that Blakesley Hall at one time belonged to the knights of the order of St. John of Jerusalem."
