"COURTEENHALL, a parish in the hundred of Wymersley, in the county of Northampton, 5 miles S. of Northampton, and 2 from the Roads railway station. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, value £275, in the patronage of the lord chancellor. The church, dedicated to SS. Peter and Paul, is an ancient structure in various styles of architecture, and contains several monuments. There is a free grammar school, which was erected and endowed by Samuel Jones, Esq., in 1680. Courteenhall House, delightfully situated, is the seat of Sir Charles Wake, who is lord of the manor."
