"HARRINGWORTH, a parish inn the hundred of Corby, county Northampton, 5 miles N.E. of Rockingham, its post town, and 4 S.E. of Uppingham. The parish, which is considerable, is situated on the river Welland, which falls into the sea at Boston. The inhabitants are chiefly employed in agriculture. The manor formerly belonged to the barons De la Zouche, who had a mansion here, part of which is incorporated in the present Manor House. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough, value £174, in the patronage of Christ Church, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The parochial charities produce £64 per annum, of which £35 is the endowment of the free school for children of both sexes. Thomas Tyron, Esq., is lord of the manor."
