"TWYWELL, a parish in the hundred of Huxloe, county Northampton, 6 miles from Kettering, its post town, and 2 S.W. from Thrapston. It is a station on the Kettering and Cambridge branch of the Midland railway. The village is situated on the road from Wellingborough to Thrapston, at a short distance to the W. of the river Nene. The soil is chiefly clay. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, value £280. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. The Duke of Buccleuch is lord of the manor."
