"WHISTON, a parish in the hundred of Wymersley, county Northampton, 6½ miles S.E. of Northampton. It is watered by the river Nene. The surface is undulating, and the soil clay upon a substratum of limestone. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, value with Denton annexed, £290. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is situated on a hill, and contains an octagonal font and several monuments to the Boston and Irby families, and one to Anthony Catesby, the founder of the church."
