"ADWELL, a parish in the hundred of Lewknor, in the county of Oxford, 4 miles to the S. of Thame, and 2 miles S.E. of Tetsworth, the post town. It is situated near the Chiltern Hills. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Oxford, value £125, in the patronage of J. W. Birch, Esq. The church is dedicated to SS. Peter and Paul, and is a small ancient structure with a square tower. Adwell House is the principal residence. Adwell Cop is an ancient entrenchment, said to have been constructed by the Danes."
