BURFORD: Geographical and Historical information from the year 1831.

"BURFORD, a parish in the hundred of OVERS, county of SALOP, comprising the chapelries of Buraston with Whetmore, Nash with Tilsop and Weston, and Whitton, and the township of Burford, and containing 1039 inhabitants, of which number, 365 are in the township of Burford, If mile (W. by S.) from Tenbury. The living is a rectory, divided into three portions; in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese of Hereford; the first portion is rated in the king's books at £9.13.4., the second at £8, and the third at £8. 13. 4., they, are in the patronage of G. Bowles, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Mary, Licence for a weekly market and an annual fair, to be held at this place, was granted by Henry III. The Kington canal crosses the parish on the northern side of the village."

" BURASTON, a chapelry, joint with Whetmore, in the parish of BURFORD, hundred of OVERS, county of SALOP, if mile (N. E.) from Tenbury, containing, with Whetmore, 226 inhabitants. The Kington canal passes on the southern side of the village."

" NASH, a township, joint with Tilsop and Weston, in the parish of BURFORD, hundred of OVERS, county of SALOP, 2 miles (N. by E.) from Tenbury, containing, with Tilsop and Weston, 377 inhabitants."

" TILSOP, a township, joint with Nash and Weston, in the parish of BURFORD, hundred of OVERS, county of SALOP, 4 miles (W. S. W.) from Cleobury Mortimer. The population is returned with Nash."

" WESTON, a township, joint with Nash and Tilsop, in the parish of BURFORD, hundred of OVERS, county of SALOP, 6 miles (E. S. E.) from Ludlow. The population is returned with Nash."

" WHETMORE, a township, joint with Buraston, in the parish of BURFORD, hundred of OVERS, county of SALOP, 2 miles (N. N. E.) from Tenbury. The population is returned with Buraston."

" WHITTON, a township in the parish of BURFORD, hundred of OVERS, county of SALOP, 3 miles (N. W. by N.) from Tenbnry, containing 68 inhabitants."
