"HOPE BAGGOT, a parish in the hundred of STOTTESDEN, county of SALOP, 6 miles (E. by S.) from Ludlow, containing 71 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese of Hereford, rated in the king's books at £ 3. 6. 8., and endowed with £200 royal bounty. The Marquis of Cleveland was patron in 1817. The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist."
