"HOPE BOWDLER, a parish in the hundred of MUNSLOW, county of SALOP, 2 miles (E. S.E.) from Church Stretton, containing, with the township of Chilmick with Ragdon, 179 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese of Hereford, ratedin the. king's books at £6. 13. 4. C. P. Stainier, Esq. was patron in 1806. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew."
