"MEOLE-BRACE, a parish in the borough of Shrewsbury, and hundred of Condover, county Salop, 1½ mile S. of Shrewsbury, its post town. The parish includes the townships of Hokoe-Gate, Nobold, Newton, and Edgebold. Sharpstone hills, Bomere Pool, and Lyth Hill, are spots a mile distant from the village, and noted for their scenery. The stream which flows through the village abounds in trout. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Hereford, value £425. The church is a small modern structure with a tower containing one bell. The charities consist of almshouses for nine poor widows. The Kingsland lunatic asylum and the Shrewsbury union poorhouse are in this parish. John Bather, Esq., is lord of the manor.
