"SHERIFF HALES, a parish partly in the Newport division of the hundred of Bradford South, and partly in the county of Stafford. Woodcot hamlet, the only part which belongs to Shropshire, contains 26 houses, 188 inhabitants. 5 miles south- east by south of Newport."

" WOODCOT (or WOODCOTE), a township in the parish of Sheriff Hales, and in the Newport division of the hundred of Bradford, South, a chapel to Sheriff Hales, in the diocese of Hereford, the deanery of Newport, and arcbdeaconry of Stafford. A separate Assessment from Sheriff Hales. 3½ miles south of Newport.
