"STOCKTON, a parish in the Shifnall division of the hundred of BRIMSTREE, county of SALOP, 4 miles (N. by E.) from Bridgenorth, containing 500 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, with the perpetual curacy ot Boningale, in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese ot Lichfield and Coventry, rated in the king's books at £13.11.3. T. Whitmore, Esq. was patron in 1811. The church is dedicated to St. Chad."
