"SUTTON MADDOCK, a parish in the Shiffnall division of the hundred of BRIMSTREE, county of SALOP, 6 miles (N.) from Bridgenorth, containing 417 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, annexed to the rectory of Kemberton, in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, rated in the king's books at £5. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The Severn bounds the parish on the west, and the Shropshire canal forms a junction with that river, near the china manufactory established on its banks."
