It was founded in 1795 in town and when new chapel built on High Street in 1863 old one became "The Manse". Congregational church joined with Christchurch, a Methodist / URC Local Ecumenical Partnership in St Mary's Square. This was by 2009 but actual year needed? This building (The Stable) still holds some services and was registered for marriages on 13/May/1968.
In 1972 the Congregational church joined with the English Presbyterian church to become the United Reformed Church. Some Congregational churches though did not take this path and became members of the Congregational Federation.
