Congregational Chapel (now Cong. Church), Rendham, Independent

The church has/had a graveyard. This is marked as B.G. on OS 25in maps to north of chapel. A separate area is marked to south side as well.

It was founded in 1750. Enlarged in 1834.

Cemeteries N S and W of bldg - Replaced Sweffling (Swefling) Chapel which was founded in 1650.

The Independent churches were ones in which each congregation was autonomous, upholding the principles of independence. In the 19th century they became known as Congregational.

In 1972 the Congregational church joined with the English Presbyterian church to become the United Reformed Church. Some Congregational churches though did not take this path and became members of the Congregational Federation.
