"CHAFFCOMBE, a parish in the hundred of South Petherton, in the county of Somerset, 2 miles E. of Chard, and about 3 S. of Ilminster. The Yeovil and Exeter branch of the London and South-Western railway has a station at Chard Road. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £143, in the patronage of Earl Poulett. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, is an ancient building in the early English style, and has been recently restored. The tithes were commuted in 1839. The lord of the manor is Earl Poulett.
