"CHIPSTABLE, a parish in the hundred of Williton, in the county of Somerset, 7 miles N.W. of the Wellington station, and 15 from Witchet. It is situated on the river Tone, which takes its rise on Brendon Hill. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £340, in the patronage of C. H. Dare, Esq. The church, dedicated to All Saints, is an ancient edifice, in the Gothic style of architecture, and has been recently repaired. The register commences in 1694. Here is a. National school for both sexes. Bulland Lodge is a beautiful seat, occupied by Arthur Capel, the lord of the manor."
