"CHISELBOROUGH, a parish in the hundred of Houndsborough, in the county of Somerset, 4 miles from the Crewkerne station of the London and Exeter direct line, and 5 W. of Yeovillage It is situated on the river Parret. The living is a rectory,* annexed to which is the curacy of West Chinnock, in the diocese of Bath and Wells, in the patronage of the Earl of Egremont. The church, dedicated to SS. Peter and Paul, is a fine edifice in the Norman and early English styles of architecture; the nave was restored in 1842. The register commences in 1555. Here is a Wesleyan place of worship, and a school supported by the rector. The lord of the manor is J. M. Quantock, Esq. There is a fair for horses and cattle on the last Thursday in October."
