"BERMONDSEY, a parish within the borough of Southwark, in the hundred of Brixton, and county of Surrey, forming part of the suburbs of London on the south-east side. It is situated on the south bank of the river Thames, and is intersected by the London Bridge railways. It is a very ancient parish, and its name is but slightly changed from its original Saxon form of Burmundeseye. "
