CHARLWOOD
"CHARLWOOD, a parish in the first division of the hundred of Reigate, in the county of Surrey, 3 miles S.W. of the Horley station of the London, Brighton, and South Coast line. It is situated near Timberham Bridge, on the river Mole, where the Danes were defeated.[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868)The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Winchester, value £550, in the patronage of H. C. Wise, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, is an ancient structure, partly in the Norman style. The charities amount to £28 per annum. Here are schools for both sexes, with a small endowment."
