ESHER

"ESHER, a parish in the second division of the hundred of Elmbridge, county Surrey, 4 miles S.W. of Kingston, 4 N.E. of Chobham, and 15 from London. It is situated on the old Portsmouth road, and the river Mole passes on the W. of the parish. The South-Western railway has a station here." (There is more of this description).

"CLAREMONT, the palace of his Majesty, Leopold, King of the Belgians, in the parish of Esher, and the county of Surrey, 4 miles S.W. of Kingston. It was built by Browne for Lord Clive, and contains in its grounds a mausoleum with a bust to the Princess Charlotte, who died here in 1817. King Louis Philippe of France died here in 1850, and it has since been the residence of the French ex-royal family."
