IDEN is a parish, 2¼ miles north from Rye station, and 85½ from London in the Eastern division of the county, Goldspur hundred Rye union and county court district, Hastings rape, Chichester diocese, and Lewes archdeaconry. The church of All Saints is an old stone building, and consists of nave, aisles, chancel and square tower containing 6 bells. The register dates from the year 1559. The living is a rectory, yearly value £753, with residence, in the gift of and held by, the Rev. John Lockington Bates, M.A. of Trinity College, Oxford. Here is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The Royal Military canal and the river Rother run through this parish. The area is 2,947 acres, and the population in 1861 was 600.
