SULLINGTON is a parish, 57 miles south-south-west from London, 5 north-west from Steyning railway station, one mile south-east from Storrington, and 9 miles north-east from Worthing, in the Western division of the county, hundred of East Easwrith, Petworth county court district, rape of Bramber, Thakeham union, diocese and archdeaconry of Chichester, and rural deanery of Storrington. The church of St. Mary is in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, and north aisle. The living is a rectory, value £400 per annum, with residence and 28 acres of glebe, in the gift of Mrs. Palmer, and held by the Rev. Henry Palmer, M.A., of Trinity College, Cambridge. Sandgate Lodge, the seat and property of George Carew Gibson, Esq., is a pleasant mansion, commanding picturesque views. The area is 2,340 acres, and the population in 1861 was 241.
BROADBRIDGE HEATH, a detached portion of this parish, is about 12 miles north, near the town of Horsham; it has now 15 houses, and a population of 86. Cobden is a farm. [Kelly's Post Office Directory of Essex, Herts, Middlesex, Kent, Surrey and Sussex, 1867.]
