WEST ITCHENOR is a small parish, 7 miles south-west from Chichester, in the Western division of the county, Manhood hundred, Chichester rape, county court district, diocese and archdeaconry, West Hampnett union. and rural deanery of Boxgrove. The church (name not known) is a neat stone structure, in the Early English style, containing small belfry of wood. tower, 3 bells, nave and chancel. The living is a rectory, yearly value £185, with residence, which formerly belonged to the priory of Boxgrove, and since the dissolution of that monastery the patronage has remained in the Lord Chancellor; the incumbent is the Rev. Alfred Fuller, B.A., of St. John's College, Cambridge. The principal landed proprietors are Lord George Lennox and Edward William Johnson, Esq. The parish to bounded by Chichester harbour, West Wittering, and Birdham. Here is a small Custom-house for the receipt of tolls. The population in 1861 was 167, and the area to 782 acres.
