"ADBASTON, a parish in the hundred of Pirehill, in the county of Stafford, 4 miles to the W. of Eccleshall. It comprises the townships of Adbaston, Bishop's Offley, Flashbrook, and Tunstall. It is situated near the Great Junction canal. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the diocese of Lichfield, value £100, in the patronage of the Dean of Lichfield. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret. There is a small endowed school, founded by John Wright, in 1724, and another endowment, for like purposes, founded in 1764, by Richard Whitworth. This parish gave the title of viscount to Earl Whitworth.
