"BASWICH, (or Berkswich), a parish in the eastern division of the hundred of Cuttlestone, in the county of Stafford, 2 miles to the S.E. of Stafford. It is situated on the Sow, a branch of the Trent, and on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal, and contains the chapelries of Acton-Trussel and Bednall, with the townships of Brockton, Milford, and Walton.

The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Lichfield, of the value of £238 in the patronage of J. N. Lane, Esq., and the Rev. C. Inge, alternately. The church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, is situated at Baswich, on the east bank of the river Penk, at a considerable distance from any of the hamlets. The charitable endowments amount to £15 a year. The parish extends from Penkridge on the south to the borders of Cannock Chase on the east, over which it has right of common. The Marquis of Anglesey is lord of the manor.
