"BLORE, (or Blore Ray), a parish in the northern division of the hundred of Totmonslow, in the county of Stafford, 9 miles to the N.E. of Cheadle. Ashbourne is its post town. It is situated on the west bank of the river Dove, and contains part of the chapelry of Calton. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lichfield, of the value of £130, in the patronage of 0. Shore, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Bartholomew. It is a small ancient edifice, and contains several monuments and brasses of the Basset family, who had formerly a seat here, on the site of which now stands a farmhouse. The parochial charities produce about £17 per annum. This parish is part of the honour of Tutbury, in the duchy of Lancaster.
