Topographical Dictionary of England, Samuel Lewis - 1859

NEWBOROUGH, a chapelry, in the parish of HANBURY, union of UTTOXETER, N. division of the hundred of OFFLOW and of the county of STAFFORD, 3 miles (E.) from Abbot's-Bromley; containing 742 inhabitants, several of whom are employed in weaving linen and checks.

The living is a perpetual curacy; net income £91; patron, Vicar of Hanbury, whose tithes in Newborough and Thorney-Lane, have been commuted for £154. The chapel, dedicated to All Saints, is a neat building with a tower, erected about a century since. There are several small bequests for instruction, and a school is conducted on the national plan.
