Packwood

"PACKWOOD, a parish in the Warwick division of the hundred of Kington, county Warwick, 4¾ miles N.E. of Henley-in-Arden, its post town, and 3 S. of the Knowle railway station. The village, which is of small extent, is situated near the Stratford canal, and is wholly agricultural. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £318 10s., and the glebe comprises 30 acres. The living is a perpetual curacy* in the diocese of Worcester, value £174. The church, dedicated to St. Giles, is an ancient edifice. The parochial charities produce about £4 per annum. Packwood House, the principal residence, is said to have been originally built in the 14th century, and has in the gardens some trees planted at the time of the Crusades. P.
